You don't have to be an expert baker to bake the most delicious island treat! With these reader friendly tips & steps you will be an expert in baking a Dominican Cake in 30 minutes!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice or pinapple juice
  • 2 cups of butter
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 eggs
  • less than a 1/3 of a lemon peel.
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • Non-stick baking spray
Step1
Mixed the butter & sugar until it is creamy. Add the eggs one by one. Slowly add the orange juice, the vanilla extract & a bit if rum (if you like)& the lemon peel. Slowly add the flour to the mixing. Mix until the flour is creamy.
Step2
Take a round pan & butter it all around with the non-stick spray & a bit of flour. Pour the mixing into the pan & put the oven to 350 degrees. Let it cook for 45 minutes to an hour. In order to determine if the cake is done, poke it gently with a knife-if it comes out clean with no batter/residue, then the cake is done. When done, take the cake out the oven & set the cake to cool.
Step3
To make the frosting: you will need 5 egg whites and 1 cup of sugar. Mix until the frosting is very thick. As a cake filler you can spread either caramel, condensed milk, or fruit spreads e.g: guava, or pineapple in the middle of the cake, then decorate it with the frosting.

  • Will serve 8-12 guest

on 10/7/2008 The cake turned out great! However, too sweet for my taste. I will cut down on the sugar next time. The icing was my favorite to make. It was so easy. It was perfect!!!! I was beside myself. I even took a picture. Thanks again!!! :-)

on 10/5/2008 Great recipe and quite easy instructions to follow. However, you forgot to mention in the directions when to add the baking soda. I forgot it too because I read them for what they were. This is my first attempt at making Dominican cake. Which is my favorite. I am not a natural cook or a baker. I need the full recipe. lol. My cake is baking right and I am praying and hoping that the result is favorable. Anyhow, as I mentioned it was quite easy to follow. My aunt made it sound like it was the most difficult thing to do. I just think she didn't want me to make it. Thanks for the recipe! I'll comment back on the outcome. ;-)
This will be interesting. Stay tuned!
