How to Pack for a Family Driving Vacation - Without Suitcases!

A clever way to efficiently pack clothes, toys, linens, toiletries, baby items, etc. for vacation and stay organized upon arrival.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rubbermaid storage bins (one per family member, plus a few extra)

Step1
Buy Rubbermaid or similar storage bins before vacation. Allow one per family member, plus additional ones as needed.
Step2
Pack each family member's clothing in a separate bin. If you have kids, use one for toys. Use another for sheets and towels, if necessary. Have a baby? Use one for diapers and wipes. Going to the beach? Use one for water and sand toys. Put first aid and bathroom items in another.
Step3
Pack bins in your vehicle. Gone are the small suitcases, bags, and loose toys. Off you go!
Step4
When you arrive to your destination, unpack the bins. Use the empty bins to keep things organized. One can hold dirty clothes. Use another for shoes. Another for toys. If you have kids, you know what I'm talking about.
Step5
When it's time to leave, you can use one of the bins to keep dirty clothes separate from the clean ones.

Tips & Warnings

  • Storage bins stack efficiently in minivans and SUVs.
  • Especially useful when you're renting a vacation house rather than a hotel room.

on 5/21/2008 Don't you just love those plastic storage containers? What did we ever do without them? Thanks. 5 stars.
