Looking for a real Sangria recipe that you would find in the restaurants of Spain? Here is a simple recipe for the famous refreshing drink.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Bottle of red (burgandy) or white (chablis) wine
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Apple (optional)
  • 4 tsp of sugar
  • 1/2 cup club soda
  • 1 64 oz. pitcher
  • Ice
  • 4 shots of dark rum or brandy
  1. Step 1

Cut your oranges and lemons (and apples if you like) into small pieces.

  2. Step 2

Fill the pitcher with ice and squeeze the juice from your fruits and place them in the pitcher.

  3. Step 3

Next, add 1/2 cup of club soda and the 4 shots of rum (or brandy) to the pitcher and then stir in the 4 tsp of sugar.

  4. Step 4

Finally, add the red wine to the pitcher and stir. Be sure to stir all the ingredients together - a wooden spoon works best. Serve and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use expensive wine....cheap wine works fine
  • Don't drink and drive! Sangria can be deceptively strong!

on 4/19/2008 I've changed it to "authentic restaurant style", since most Spanish restaurants use this recipe in America. Rioja is much harder to get here for a cheap price. Most places mix it up with rum & brandy, as most people can't tell the difference once everything is mixed up, but I agree, Brandy would be the proper Spain way.

on 4/11/2008 A more authentic Sangria would be made with Rioja. Burgundy is from France. Brandy would be the proper choice versus dark rum.

I don't doubt your recipe is wonderful - it just can't be "authentic" using a Burgundy and dark rum.
