Savory and delicious, these Biscuits fresh out of your oven at suppertime will make your whole family drool.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An oven set to 450 degrees F
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 8 teaspoons aluminum free baking powder
  • 8 - 10 Tablespoons of Virgin Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1 and ½ cup of cultured buttermilk
  • 1 cup of Parmesan or Romano cheese (Grated not powdered)
  • 1 and ½ cup sharp or extra sharp grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon whole Thyme leaf
  • 1 teaspoon whole Rosemary leaf
  • ½ teaspoon Dill leaf
  1. Step 1

Take herbs and crush up in a mortar and pestle as much as possible. Mix up dry ingredients including cheese and herbs.

  2. Step 2

Cut in coconut oil thoroughly to make coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until mix forms soft dough that leaves the side of the bowl.

  3. Step 3

Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead six to eight strokes to mix thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Roll out to ¾ inch thick with floured hands. Cut w/biscuit cutter and place on pan for baking.

  5. Step 5

Spread tops of biscuits with olive oil, or other oil for browning. Bake for about 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a great way to add fiber into your diet.
  • Though you can use ground herbs, it may make your biscuits green instead of them being beige with small green flecks.
  • The flavor of the herbs is also not as strong so it often takes more powdered herbs.
  • I have found with the cheeses and the herbs, adding salt is not necessary though you can if you wish.

on 8/13/2008 Sounds great, I wonder if there is a substitute that will work for the coconut oil. That is the only item I don't normally keep in stock.
