Terrariums are a great idea for adding a natural environment to your living space. They can be quite decorative and easy to care for since terrariums have the ability to retain their own moisture. You can choose just about any container to start a terrarium. The only requirement is that the opening is large enough to place the plants and that there's a cover to keep moisture from escaping.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the potted plants you want to put inside your terrarium. You can place plants in a terrarium one at a time to see where you want to place them or how many of your selected plants will fit before making your final decision.

  2. Step 2

Take your largest plants first when you place plants in a terrarium. Plant them in the background to avoid crowding the smaller plants in front, since these smaller plants will take up more room.

  3. Step 3

Add soil to place plants in the terrarium. Take each plant from its pot and remove excess soil from the roots. Make a hole in the terrarium soil and add your plants one at a time. Make sure to cover all the roots with soil.

  4. Step 4

Help any plants that tip over or flop by securing them with wire. Attach wire to the drooping parts of a plant so that it stands upright in the terrarium.

  5. Step 5

Fill in the terrarium with the smaller plants along the front. Add interesting accents like water-resistant wood, moss or fake mushrooms to keep the look natural as you design the terrarium.

  6. Step 6

Maintain the natural beauty of your terrarium by spraying the plants daily with water using a spray bottle.
