Performing magic tricks around the dinner table is a good way to liven up any dull, boring dinner party. Swallowing a knife is an illusion that you can do to entertain your dinner guests or hosts.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Butter knife
  1. Step 1

Place a regular butter knife on the dinner table parallel to the edge of the table.

  2. Step 2

Place both of your hands onto the knife, completely covering it.

  3. Step 3

Pretend to scoop the knife off of the table with both hands. As you do this, move the knife until it falls into your lap.

  4. Step 4

Lift up your hands as if the knife were still in them and place your hands to your mouth in a position so that it looks like you are going to swallow the knife.

  5. Step 5

Make it a big production as if you were placing the knife into your mouth and swallowing it.

  6. Step 6

Act as if the knife is moving through your system. Be very animated as it moves down inside your body.

  7. Step 7

Grab the knife with one hand as you are doing this and reach under your bottom as you tap the chair with the knife. Then pull the knife out from underneath you as if the knife just dropped out of you from behind.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can shake salt and pepper onto the knife before you swallow it as if you were preparing your meal.
  • Do not use a sharp knife with this trick. If you do, even if you manage not to cut yourself, children around the table may try to copy your trick and hurt themselves.
