Putting is one of the easiest physical maneuvers to perform in sports. However, it is also one of the most difficult to master. This paradox can make putting the source of great annoyance to even highly talented golfers. Mastering left-handed putting can dramatically improve your golf game, but does require patience, skill and mental preparation.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Position your feet correctly when putting. Stand with your feet pressed together, one on the left side of the golf ball and one on the right side.

  2. Step 2

Move your feet. A left-handed golfer will take a small step forward with her right foot and a longer step backward with her left foot.

  3. Step 3

Put your weight forward. All of your weight should be on your right leg.

  4. Step 4

Straighten your arms and extend them. Form a triangle with your shoulders and arms. The triangle must point straight down to the ball.

  5. Step 5

Take a moment to prepare mentally. Putting requires great mental concentration. Inhale deeply and then calmly imagine yourself hitting the golf ball perfectly over and over. Picture the perfect putt and imagine the ball rolling into the hole.

  6. Step 6

Make the left-handed put by rotating your shoulders back to the left and then forward to the right. Your arms will remain straight when putting.

  7. Step 7

Keep your head down. When putting, look directly down at the golf ball the entire time. Get into the habit of keeping your head down by keeping it down until you hear the sound of the golf ball landing in the hole.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid breaking your wrists when putting. Unlike other golf shots, your wrists must remain stiff.
