How to Practice Hip-hop Dance Steps

Hip-hop dance steps, like any dancing genre, require the dancer to develop a degree of skill and experience to become proficient. Although much of hip-hop dancing is freestyle, the movements and setups necessitate a lot of practice. Hip-hop dancing, like hip-hop music, requires a great sense of rhythm.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start off slowly with a few warm-up moves before launching into a demanding hip-hop dance routine.

  2. Step 2

    Move the upper body to the right with the right foot sliding along in a fluid movement.

  3. Step 3

    Take a second step to the right and then let the body follow.

  4. Step 4

    Move the upper body to the left and follow the movement with a step from the left foot.

  5. Step 5

    Slide out to the left and repeat the steps before adding a small signature move.

  6. Step 6

    Vary the movements by turning each into a double step and slide.

  7. Step 7

    Practice the routine with a variety of hip-hop tunes. Each song could elicit a different set of freestyle moves.
