There are many ways to create a split hair style, with some of your hair up and some of your hair left loose, that not only shows off your hair but expresses your own personal style. From no frills to fancy additions, this hair style is perfect for just about everyone with medium to long hair.

  1. Step 1

Start with your hair brushed and down. Decide where you want to part your hair. Most split hair styles start near the top back part of the ear on both sides of you head so half of the hair is up and half of the hair is down. Ultimately you choose how much or little to style up.

  2. Step 2

Part your hair a variety of different ways to accent your face or create a softer, more casual look. You can choose no part, with all of the hair being pulled back together, a center part, or parts on either side. Try out some different parts, not just your usual or natural part. You will be surprised at how the split style will change with so little effort.

  3. Step 3

Leave a few strands down around your face to soften the split style. It is important to do this at this point in the process before you clasp or tie your hair back. If you take down too much or too little hair, you can make adjustments without having to scratch a near finished hairdo.

  4. Step 4

Decide what you want to hold your hair back with. You can use a variety of clips, clasps or hair ties. This style is such a good choice for so many people because there are a lot of options for how to hold your hair back. Even a common rubber band will do the trick.

  5. Step 5

Add some personality to some or all of your hair. You can curl the part of you hair that is tied back, or all of it for gorgeous waves down your back. You can try either a single braid or a number of small braids to spice things up. Ribbons, decorative clips and even flowers can complete your look.
