How to Set Up a Mounted Cymbal Stand

Cymbals need to be properly mounted to prevent accidents. The cymbal stand has to be balanced to not only support the weight of the cymbal but also to keep it stable. Typically, cymbals are not stuck as hard as the drums, but because they hang loosely, they can become imbalanced.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Loosen the top part of the cymbal stand. This is the part of the cymbal stand which has two felt pieces on it.

  2. Step 2

Remove the metal clasps that hold the felt in place. The clasps should also have a piece of heavy-duty black plastic underneath which stabilizes the cymbal on the stand. Make sure this substance is softer than the metal of the cymbal to prevent “keyholing” which is damaging to the cymbal.

  3. Step 3

Slip the cymbal down onto the stand by inserting the cymbal pole through the center hole of the cymbal.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the cymbal onto the stand depending on your personal preferences. The tighter the cymbal is attached, the harder you have to hit the cymbals. Keep in mind that the sound decays quicker if the cymbal is tightly attached.

  5. Step 5

Adjust the cymbal on the stand to suit your own style of play. Fine tune the mounting by playing the cymbal.
