Cartoons may look easy to draw, but in order to make your drawing look like a cartoon, you need to know what features cartoon drawings have. Cartoons are most easily distinguishable by their exaggerated features such as the eyes, nose and mouth. Facial features can make or break your cartoon drawing, but once you learn these basics of cartoons you'll be able to draw a cartoon of almost anything.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Draw 2 very round circles for your cartoon eyes. To exaggerate the cartoon features, place the eyes very close together or even connect them so that they look like a figure 8.

  2. Step 2

Draw the iris and pupil inside the eyes. Think about what kind of expression you want the character to have before you place the iris--if the character is confused, have the irises in different places in each eye, or if the character is angry, place both irises towards the middle in a cross-eyed expression.

  3. Step 3

Add a few lines around the eyes to indicate the character's expression. Eyebrows either slanting up or down, as well as curved lines on the sides or bottom of the eyes can indicate a character's mood.

  4. Step 4

Add a single curved line for the nose. You can draw the nose curved up or down in a "U"-shape and make it narrow or broad depending on if you want the character to look masculine or feminine and young or old.

  5. Step 5

Add 1 to 2 small white circles in the irises of the eyes to give the eyes brightness and make the character appear more cartoonlike.
