Step 1
Evaluate the injured area. A possible break or serious injury needs immediate treatment by a medical professional.
-
Step 2
Treat sprains using the RICE method. Rest, ice, compression and elevation of the injured area helps recovery in sprains. The sooner the RICE method is applied, the better.
-
Step 3
Treat fractures by getting medical attention immediately. Immobilize the broken limb, if needed, by using a splint. If none are available, avoid moving the person until medical personnel arrive. Keep the dancer calm and look for signs of shock.
-
Step 4
Care for blisters when necessary. Blisters left untreated may become infected. Cover the blistered area with an adhesive bandage. If the blister has burst, apply antibacterial ointment. Avoid bursting a blister, if possible.
-
Step 5
Be aware of torn toenails. Cut away all toenails that have torn lose. Lose bits can cause further problems or infection. Clean the area with warm soapy water. Apply antibacterial ointment and cover with an adhesive bandage.
-
Step 6
Implement prevention into the dancer's routine. Things such as proper shoe care and thoroughly warming up before working out can prevent the need for first aid.
