Learning to crochet takes a little patience. To crochet doilies, you need to know the basic chain three and double stitches. It is also important to keep the thread tight during the entire process. The following steps explain how to crochet table accessories like doilies.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by loading the size 10 needle and getting the thread ready to use. Wrapping it around your finger is a good way to keep it from tangling and to keep the thread tight.

  2. Step 2

Complete the first two rows (center), by first doing an eight string, then looping them together to form the first circle. The second row is done by adding a loop in a chain to the first circle.

  3. Step 3

Begin the third row by doing a double stitch. You should have a V, which is a chain five with a double. Do the next double beside it with a chain three and another double. Put your needle all the way through the top of the double, then continue with double, chain two. Continue it into the same stitch.

  4. Step 4

Notice the V again. Work your way around using the same sequence as in Step 2. You will come back later and put some more stitches into these little slots, also known as a chain three space.

  5. Step 5

Continue the double, chain three and V sequence until you get to the size of doily you desire. If you have trouble, consult a beginner's crochet book that shows the different stitches clearly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you have the basic stitches down, experiment with different sizes and colors of doilies. Your new-found talent will make great gifts all year round for every one you know.
