How to Peel a Banana Without the Strings

How to Peel a Banana Without the Stringsthumbnail
Learn to peel your banana so the strings stay on the peel.

Bananas grow in bunches. The top of the banana is actually what most people consider the bottom because bananas grow upward while the stems face down. When you peel a banana the traditional way, you go against the grain of the fruit, causing the strings to remain on the fruit. You can avoid this problem by taking a cue from monkeys. These animals pinch the end opposite from the stem and peel the skin back.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Banana- not too ripe
      • 1

Take a yellow banana in your hand. Locate the stem portion and the opposite end. Position the stem so that it's away from you.

      • 2

Make a cut in the end of the banana that's closest to you with a knife, or use your fingernail to start the peeling process. Peel each section down toward the stem.

      • 3

Watch as the strings tend to adhere to the skin rather than to the fruit.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Avoid this method with a banana that is over-ripe.
