Bananas grow in bunches. The top of the banana is actually what most of us consider the bottom because bananas grow upside down. When we peel a banana the traditional way we are going against the grain of the fruit which causes the strings to remain on the fruit. This is a trick I learned from my daughter so that the strings come off with the peel.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Banana- not too ripe

Step1
Take a yellow banana and note that the banana has a stem [towards the right in picture] and an end piece [towards the left in picture].
Step2
While holding the stem away from you either make a cut in the end of the banana with a knife [or use your fingernail] to start the peeling process. Peel each section down towards the stem.

For some reason this method increases the chances of the skin adhering to the strings... hmmm
Step3
When finished you should have a perfectly peeled banana without the strings. Note: If a banana is over ripe it may not work as well.
