How to Measure the Depth of a Golfer

Golf is an individual game—your greatest competition is with yourself. In order to measure your depth as a golfer you will need to know your skill rating. This is your ability to get the ball in the hole with the fewest number of strokes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Professional golfer
  • Golf course
  • Clubs
  • Measuring equipment
  • Golf balls
Step1
Learn the importance of length, accuracy and imagination. Even though golf is an individual game, in order to understand or measure your depth, you need to compare yourself to other golfers.
Step2
Decide if you want to purchase handheld equipment to measure how far you hit the ball. Much of the equipment on the market mimics what you can spot with your own eye while playing a round. You will know how far you have hit the ball when you go to hit it again.
Step3
Study the technique that allows you to shape your shot. In order to shape your shot you need to curve it from right to left and vice versa.
Step4
Watch your dress—sometimes the way we dress in golf tells others of our depth. Long ball hitters and those with imagination wear shorts, men who wear knickers tend to have longevity and accuracy and men in long pants have all three skills.
Step5
Measure your depth by the happiness of your round with your partner. Good scores prove that if you have fun with your partner on the golf course your game is better because you are relaxed.
Step6
Determine which hole on the golf course is the classic hole. The classic hole has a skill rating of 1.00 or greater. If you do well on that hole, you can get a general measure of your depth.
Step7
Consult with a professional and play a round with them. The comparison of your scores is a clear measurement of your depth as a golfer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all golfers have all three skill levels—don't get frustrated.
  • If you are continuously speeding up and slowing down play, let the group behind you pass so you don't have angry golfers waiting and watching you.
