The model train hobby is one of the oldest and most interesting hobbies around. Men, women and children of all ages enjoy the sights and sounds of model trains as they motor around a table display. It may even be easier than you think to get started with model trains.

Artistic techniques such as weathering and electrical techniques such as wire stripping can enhance your experience with model trains. You won't have all of these skills when you first get started with model trains, but you will develop them over time.

3. Connect with other model train enthusiasts. The National Model Railroad Association, as well as local associations, are excellent places to make new friends and learn more about how to get started with model trains.

4. Attend model train shows. Model train shows give you a way to connect with other model train enthusiasts, but they also provide you with all sorts of inspiring ideas. Most model train shows also feature educational opportunities in which you learn useful model railroading techniques.
