Identify the source of your fear. If you simply do not have much experience with horses, it may be you simply need more time and practice. If you have been bucked or fallen, your horse is unruly or you have had some other experience, you will need to recruit help to both calm your horse and get back in the saddle.

Be aware that horses are intelligent animals and will sense your fear. If you are afraid, your horse may become nervous or even try taking advantage of your weakness. It is extremely important that you have confidence when riding so that your horse is comfortable and knows who is boss.

Attend organized riding classes where you can spend quality time with a number of different horses. Instructors will often start you off with an older horse or a gentle pony to help easy you into riding. Working in an organized and professional environment is a great way to overcome your fear.
Step4
Work with an experienced rider or a trainer, as fear of horses is often due to inexperience. The confidence of an experienced person will help to ease your nerves and keep your horse relaxed and in control. With help, you can learn to groom, saddle and ride even an unruly horse with confidence.
Step5
Maintain rhythmic breathing to keep yourself calm when working around horses. Additionally, you should always use smooth, rhythmic motions when grooming your horse. Over time you will become accustomed to your horse's mannerisms and overcome your fear.
