How to Nod

So much of human communication is non-verbal, meaning there are no words involved. Body language is another word for non-verbal communication. Waves, smiles, giving someone the finger and nods are all examples of non-verbal communication. You can use nodding to convey multiple ideas and concepts, so knowing how to nod properly is incredibly important.

Instructions

Smile and nod quickly, raising your eyebrows. This indicates you're excited about what the other person is saying. In general, you understand the concept and are happy about it. This is a great way to make a shy person feel more comfortable about what they're saying.

Give a curt nod to indicate displeasure. If someone tells you to do something or gives you information you don't like, you can give them a curt nod to let them know you understand or will follow instructions, but you're not happy about it.

Lift your chin and bob your head to the side. This is a nod that says hi. You can use this nodding technique while flirting, especially if you pair it with a smile.

    • 4

Stop nodding your head when you don't understand something or don't want to continue the conversation. This indicates to the other person you'd rather talk about something else or you need more clarification.
