Gather your spy supplies. You usually need a notebook, pencil or pen, a disguise and binoculars or magnifying glass. These items are available in a spy kit (see Resources). If you are playing with a friend, you will also need walkie talkies. Your friend should have a set of spy supplies.

2
Pick a subject to spy on. A sibling, friend or neighbor is usually a choice. Make sure that the person you pick doesn't mind being spied on. This is important just in case they catch you.

-
3
Respect your subject's privacy. A spy should allow a person privacy when warranted, such as in the bathroom or if the subject is changing clothes.
-
4
Decide where to hide to spy on your subject. A bush or tree is a good choice if you are outside. If you are inside, consider sneaking around ducking into rooms.
-
5
Have an excuse ready if you get caught spying. The excuse should be believable. If you are outside hiding, you can say that you are playing hide and seek with a friend. If you are inside you can say that you are looking for something that you lost.
-
6
Watch your subject. Take notes about everything the person does during the day.
-
7
Talk about your discoveries with your friend. If you are playing alone, think about what secrets you learned about your subject.
