Instructions

    • 1

Cut the toe from an old nylon stalking so it is 5 or 6 inches long. Make sure that the stocking has no holes, or you will loose soil. Add a sprinkle of grass seed to the toe of the stocking. A little seed goes a long way, so use jjust a half spoonful or so.

    • 2

Place the nylon with sawdust or potting soil or a mixture of the two, filling the toe until you have reached the size of head you like. Secure the bottom of the head with a rubber band and trim off the extra nylon.

    • 3

Use small rubber bands to create ears and a nose. Simply pinch a piece of the stocking, holding a bit of your filler material as well and wrap the rubber band. Make the nose and ears as big or small as you like.

    • 4

Decorate your grass head. You can use fingernail polish, paints, glue, felt, wiggle eyes or other materials to design your grass head's face. You might even consider using a strip of fabric to tie around the base, creating a bow-tie or scarf.

    • 5

Set your grass head in a shallow bowl of water and leave it in a sunny window. The hair will begin to grow through the stocking in about a week. When the hair gets long, starts to droop or split, simply give it a trim.
