Halloween is a time to become someone else completely and get lost in fantasy. If something sweet just won't do, try putting a twist on a classic costume. Turn a standard fairy into something slightly wicked and learn how to make a gothic fairy costume with these directions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black dress
  • Scissors
  • Black panty hose and thread
  • Elastic
  • Black ribbon
  • Duct tape
  • 2 yards red tulle
  • Fishnet hose
  • Black boots or Mary Janes
  1. Step 1

Make fairy wings with some wire and black panty hose. Cut the legs off the hose. Shape the 16-gauge wire into wing shapes, bending until you're satisfied with the look. Hold the wings together with duct tape and slide the hose onto the wings. Secure with thread. Pin ribbon on the wings to attach the wings to the outfit.

  2. Step 2

Create a fairy dress. Use a plain black dress and cut a jagged edge around the bottom and the sleeves. Cut the skirt short first for a flirty look.

  3. Step 3

Add a little fairy flair by adding a splash of color with a little red accent like a tulle underskirt. Make one by purchasing 2 yards of red tulle, gathering one of the long ends and sewing it to a piece of 1-inch elastic cut to waist size. Make the other end jagged like the dress.

  4. Step 4

Put on plenty of dark eyeliner and false eyelashes, pale foundation and red lipstick.

  5. Step 5

Create a gothic hairstyle. There are many directions to take here like a fire red wig in a severe bobbed hairdo, or spray temporary black hair color into natural hair and create a wispy gothic fairy hairstyle like high ponytails or piling some hair on the top of the head and letting tendrils hang down all around.

  6. Step 6

Put on some fishnet stockings and high-heeled boots or chunky Mary Janes.
