The crossover turn is commonly used to turn a corner while rollerblading. To do it, you lift one leg up and over the other foot, then set it down again. Lift the second foot and set it down beside the first, and you've completed a crossover turn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Skate in a straight line on your rollerblade skates.

  2. Step 2

Lift your right leg up by bending at the knee, raising it so your right foot is high enough to clear your left rollerblade skate.

  3. Step 3

Cross your right skate over the top of your left and set it down. Transfer your weight to your right skate.

  4. Step 4

Lift your left rollerblade skate up and set it beside your right. Transfer your weight to your left skate. Use your hands to maintain balance while you shift your weight.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this process until you change directions. You can use the same method to turn a corner going the other way, by lifting your left rollerblade over your right.

Tips & Warnings
  • The faster you go on rollerblade skates, the easier it is to maintain your balance. Everyone falls, however, so don't get discouraged. Keep practicing and soon you'll be able to crossover with ease.
  • Always wear protective gear and a helmet when skating on rollerblades. Everyone falls; pads, wrist guards and helmets protect you from severe injury.
  • Make sure the surface you're skating on is free of debris, as it will bring your rollerblades to an immediate halt and result in a nasty fall.
