Flea season can be a difficult time for many pet owners. Despite your best efforts you may find that you still end up with fleas in the house. In addition of treating your pet and vacuuming all floors, rugs and furniture make a flea trap to get rid of any fleas that have already hatched and are still lurking in your home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shallow bowl or pan
  • Warm water
  • Liquid dish detergent
  • Gooseneck lamp
  1. Step 1

Take a large shallow bowl, glass pie plate or cookie sheet from your kitchen cupboard to use for your trap.

  2. Step 2

Make a solution of warm water and a few drops of liquid dish detergent. Stir it gently to mix it up and put it into your bowl. The soap in the water takes away the surface tension so the fleas are unable to jump back out and they drown.

  3. Step 3

Place your flea trap in the infested area. Make certain to put it in a location where children and pets will not have access to it.

  4. Step 4

Put a lamp above the bowl, preferably one with a high intensity light bulb to heat the water. Both the light and the warm water will attract the fleas causing them to fall into the trap. A gooseneck lamp works well to direct the light onto the water.

  5. Step 5

Change the soap and water in your flea trap each morning to get rid of the fleas that have jumped in and drowned.

  6. Step 6

Continue daily until the day comes when you check and don’t find a single flea floating in your trap. Wash your bowl or pan and return it to the kitchen cupboard.
