Doorbells are all set up similarly with a cover, strings and battery, or can be wired into the wiring of the house. The pitch of your doorbell is mostly a preferrential thing, but can contribute to your sanity, your pet's response and the life of your doorbell strings.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the doorbell cover. Inside you will find the wiring where the battery or house wiring connects, the strings that make the doorbell sound, and other possible components-depending on your doorbell style and year of manufacturing.

  2. Step 2

Notice a screw or other tightening device on one end of the strings. This can be tightened or loosened. While, the strings need to be on the tighter side to work properly, they do not need to be taut in order to work. Check that the strings are in good shape and have not suffered corrosion or other damage.

  3. Step 3

Assess the tightness of the strings. If they are tight, loosen them a little, then press the doorbell activator button. You should notice the sound is lower. The tighter the strings, the higher the sound. The looser the strings, the lower the sound.

  4. Step 4

Keep the sound in moderation. You don't want the sound so low it isn't easily heard above other household noise or electronics. You should check the doorbell components periodically to make sure they are functioning properly and the strings are in good condition.

Tips & Warnings
