Indoor gardens add a lush and beautiful dimension to any décor and are great for those unable to care for an outdoor gardening space. Flowers, greenery and even succulents lend themselves perfectly to indoor gardens.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Narrow down the type of garden under consideration. Many people successfully plant indoor vegetable gardens that produce delicious produce for the home. Others prefer to harvest beautiful flowers and greenery.

  2. Step 2

Select an area in the home best suited for an indoor garden. Somewhere near a fresh water source and controllable sunlight are great choices.

  3. Step 3

Factor in all of the furniture and surrounding necessities. Tools, potting soil and fertilizers need a safely stored near the project without causing harm to other plants, children or animals.

  4. Step 4

Design ergonomically for best results. Think about the height of the planters and put in a decent reliable drainage system that uses as much of the run-off water as possible.

  5. Step 5

Keep cost in mind when designing an indoor garden. Materials add up and space disappears quickly when no budget is set. Have a good idea of what the finished product will look like when designing.

  6. Step 6

Bring in an assortment of herbs to the indoor garden design to accent any kitchen cupboard. Focus on the herbs most used in everyday cooking, and the design will follow.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider creating an entirely hydroponic indoor garden. These gardens don't use soil for a growth medium, but a series of water chambers that nourish the plants' roots directly.
  • Many indoor gardens are kept in terrariums to recreate a small tropical garden. These gardens foster some of the most exotic plants.
