A toe touch is a gymnastics stunt that is also performed in cheerleading. It takes strength, flexibility and coordination to perform it properly. With a lot of practice and good technique, you too can do an impressive toe touch.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Warm up and stretch your muscles before attempting a toe touch. Stretching on a consistent basis is important to maintaining flexibility and to prevent injuries.

  2. Step 2

Stand with your legs together and raise your arms to form a "V." This is called the "High V" position. Use a swift sharp movement when you raise your arms into the "High V" position.

  3. Step 3

Stand on your tiptoes. Keep your legs together and arms in the "High V" position. Prepare to jump.

  4. Step 4

Do the toe touch. Bend your knees. Swing your arms in front of you, crossing them as they pass each other. Begin to jump. Complete the circular motion of your arms. Swing them into a "T" position as you simultaneously lift your body into the air. Keep your legs straight as you lift them into a straddle position. Point your toes. Keep your arms in a "T" position as you reach over and touch your toes. Your head, chest and shoelaces need to face upward while you are in the air.

  5. Step 5

Finish the toe touch. Snap back into position. Use as much force to snap down as you used to jump up. This makes your jump sharp. Land with your feet together and your knees flexed. Keep your upper body as straight possible. Raise your arms into the original "V" position to complete the jump.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your arms in the "T" position. Refrain from reaching for your legs. Instead, bring your legs to your arms.
  • Always keep your toes pointed and both your back and legs straight while in the air.
  • Improve strength in your leg and stomach muscles to achieve greater height when you do a toe touch.
  • Work on your toe touches every day to improve endurance and execution of the move.
  • All gymnastics stunts come with risks. It is best to learn gymnastics from a trained coach.
