If you stress out at test time for your history class, you can relax. Taking an essay test in history class is no different than writing for a regular class assignment if you prepare yourself ahead of time. Follow these simple tips and you can easily pass your next history essay test.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice your writing skills every day. Pay attention to the writing styles that your school uses in Communication Arts classes as well as your history classes. Each school has an accepted mode of writing that they use to train their students.

  2. Step 2

Stay current on your class reading in history class. Your brain just goes into overload when you try to absorb too much information at one time.

  3. Step 3

Listen carefully in class while you take notes. Teachers often give verbal clues as to what they are expecting you to know for their tests.

  4. Step 4

Go over you notes the night before. Get a good night’s sleep before the test. Eat a good breakfast on test day. Arrive at class on time.

  5. Step 5

Read the essay question carefully. Make sure you know what the teacher is asking for. If you have a question, ask for clarification.

  6. Step 6

Jot down notes at the bottom of the paper or on a piece of scrap paper if your teacher allows it. Also create a brief outline to help keep you on track as you write your essay.

  7. Step 7

Write a strong thesis statement for your opening sentence to your essay. Continue to develop your essay with information that backs up your thesis statement. Use the same writing style guides you use in your other classes. Be sure to proofread your work when you finish.
