Instructions

    • 1

Buy a basic three-ring binder with rings large enough to accommodate several sections, organizational tools and miscellaneous papers. Choose a convenient size-although a "half-pint" book (measuring 8.5 by 5.5 inches) is easier to carry, an 8.5 by 11-inch binder will let you gather printed papers, flyers and documents with ease. (See Resources)

    • 2

Make a list of the items you'd like your notebook to hold. Consider sections for daily tasks, a weekly or monthly calendar, each child's school and activity schedule and assignments, a menu planner and shopping list, contacts and even a personal journal. Leave a section of blank pages in back for jotting quick notes or as a place for your kids to doodle when they're bored.

    • 3

Purchase pre-printed planner pages to suit each section, print your own or simply use loose-leaf notebook paper. (See Resources)

    • 4

Use colorful, staggered divider tabs to label each section. Place the categories that you'll access most (like the daily "to do" list or monthly calendar) in the front for easy access.

    • 5

Keep writing tools, along with tickets, coupons, small notes and scissors handy in a zippered pocket. This way, when you're in a rush, you can grab your notebook and go rather than hunting for the necessities. If you're constantly adding flyers or papers from school, include a slender three-hole punch, as well. (See Resources)
