1
Fake an illness and say that you need to go home. This means of exit is risky, because it requires that you not be seen out and about for the next day or two. If people see you out and you are obviously not sick, that information may get back to the host and it could hurt or anger her. In addition, have a non-descript illness at the ready such as "I just do not feel well," or something to that affect.

2
Have another person call where you are or call your cell phone. Then act as if you have received some news that requires you to exit the event. The excuse must be simple as in "I forgot that I have to pick my sister up at the airport." These excuses can come back to haunt you as well because they are not true. If there is anyone else involved in the excuse, make certain she know's it and is a willing participant.

3
Act tired during the event and tells others about your long day. Then inform the host that you are leaving because you just have to get some sleep. Telling others and feigning fatigue help give credence to the graceful exit excuse.

4
Use the busy life excuse for the graceful exit. Inform the host that you have mountains of work to do at home and simply must get home and start on it. This exit excuse is risky because the host may think you would rather work instead of attend their social function. An even better busy life excuse is to tell the host that you simply must get home and check on the kids.
