How to Do a Rumba Box Step
The box step in the rumba is much the same as the box step for the samba, waltz or foxtrot; the difference is the timing of the steps. The box step is good for getting in synchronization with your partner before trying more complicated steps.

Tips & Warnings
As with most ballroom dances, begin with the man stepping forward on the left foot, and all steps forward by either partner are done with the left foot.
Remember to bend your knees as you step to get your hips to sway in what's known as Cuban motion.
Instead of stepping straight back, turn your foot slightly to "rotate the box" so you and your partner slowly turn in a circle as you dance.
Don't step flat-footed. Always land on the ball of your foot and then set your heel down.
