How to Design a Website Template

Creating websites has become so easy that just about everyone has a website. Almost anyone can make a website to showcase their talents, but not everyone knows how to create a website template that can be used over and over again.

Instructions

1. Mentally envision the template's design. It's easier to create a template once you have a mental picture of what you want. You don't have to envision all of the fine details. Just have a general idea as to where on the website you want things like navigation (along the top or the side), colors and image location.

2. Use uncomplicated code. If you wish to share this template with other web developers, it's best to use uncomplicated code. If other developers want to modify the template, they can easily add their own bells and whistles to suit their needs.

3. Put comments in the code of your template design. As the template creator, you have a solid idea of what you're doing. Another web designer, however, may not. If you place comments in the template code, other web designers will be able to use your code with the least amount of confusion.

4. Create an instruction file. Once you've created the website design template, it's best to create a file to accompany the template with instructions on how to use the template. This file is especially helpful to folks who are not very familiar with web design. Most experienced webmasters can figure it out without the instructions.
