How to Sew a Cloth Baseball
Baseballs are a classic toy. Sew a cloth baseball for your little one. Cloth baseballs are soft and flexible, making them much more forgiving to heads and other breakable items that they are thrown into. Use any scraps of material you have, including old jeans or t-shirts. Make a practice ball, before the real thing, when you are a beginning seamstress.

1
Trace around a round object, such as an old jar lid or a small bowl. Slide the lid over leaving a space 3/4 of the lids width. Trace the lid again.
-
2
Use a straight edge to draw to lines between the two circles at the top and bottom of the circles. Draw two more straight lines that divide the width of the rectangle each by one quarter, this forms the connecting neck of the baseball.
-
-
3
Make curved lines at the corners of the inner lines to form a fat figure eight shape.
-
4
Sketch a seam allowance 1/4 inch around the entire outside of the figure eight. Lay the sketch of the eight on top of a second piece of material. Cut out the figure out from both pieces so that you have two figure eights.
-
5
Place the two pieces, right sides together so that it forms a rounded cross shape. Sew one round piece to the indentation of the second figure eight. Continue sewing the ball so that each of the round end pieces are connected to the corresponding indentation. Leave a 1 inch opening.
-
6
Turn the baseball right side out. Stuff the ball with enough batting to make it firm. Turn the edges of the opening under, and hand stitch to close the hole.
-
7
Stitch the threading around the seams of the ball using red embroidery floss and an embroidery needle.
