How to Quit an AIM Addiction
As a recovering AIM addict myself, I know what it's like: rushing home to check the computer screen; feeling so proud of yourself when you finally come up with the most hilarious away message; juggling ten chat boxes at once. But honestly, you're life will be better when you quit AIM. Here's how you can stop your addiction.

1
Plan different activities to use up your time. Sign up for a class or join a club. Let's face it, when we first started AIM, we did it because we were bored. We got addicted because it's fun to talk to everyone we know at the same time and pass gossip. If you schedule other social events into your day, you'll have less time for AIM, and soon you'll realize that you like actual activity more than sitting in front of your computer.

2
Use your AIM conversations to try to persuade your friends to come out and do something. When they ask you what you want to do, you can say watch a movie, play a sport or go to a local hang out. The more people you pull off of AIM to go have fun, the more you'll help other people beat their AIM addiction too.

Cut back your time on AIM. Maybe you go on AIM two hours every night. Cut that back to one hour a night for a week. The next week go on for no more than a half an hour a night. Keep cutting back until you've quit AIM altogether.

4
Quit cold turkey. This simply means that you just sign off today, and never sign on again. Fill your newly found free time with other activities, and you won't even miss AIM by the end of the week.
