The impact of global warming can already be seen today, but it's future generations that will shoulder an even larger cost. There are many things we can do now to effectively slow global warming. You may be surprised to find that as you take steps to slow the human impact on global warming you will also save yourself costs associated with energy use.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Unplug appliances when they're not in use. Many continue to drain energy when left plugged in. TV's, VCR's, cell phone battery chargers, even microwaves use stand-by energy while turned off but plugged in.

  2. Step 2

Line dry your laundry when ever possible to help slow global warming. In the spring and summer you can effectively air dry your freshly laundered clothes while reducing the carbon emissions produced by your dryer.

  3. Step 3

Combine your errands into one car trip. As you drive fewer miles you will reduce carbon dioxide emissions produced by your vehicle.

  4. Step 4

Recycle everything possible to cut down on the waste that goes into our landfills. Keep in mind that in addition to paper, plastic and aluminum you can also recycle such things as cell phones and printer ribbons. Even donating old clothes, shoes and furniture rather than throwing them away will help slow the growth of our landfills.

  5. Step 5

Replace blown out light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's.) While they cost more than traditional incandescent bulbs, they use far less electricity and last much longer.

  6. Step 6

Adjust your thermostat as a cost and energy saving change. Lower the temperature in the winter time and wear a sweater if necessary. If you use air conditioner, increase the cooling temperature by a couple of degrees.
