How to Make a Vegan Smoothie

A vegan is a vegetarian who follows a plant-based diet and eats no meat, dairy, eggs or any other animal product. Dietary choices have to pack a big punch in terms of vitamins and protein as well as flavor. Serve this smoothie with warm bran muffins and nut butter for a flavorful, nutrient packed meal.       Assemble the fruit for the smoothie. Use ripe fruit cut into small pieces or use frozen fruit. Choose a combination of banana, mango, papaya, raspberries strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and/or kiwi. Substitute a banana-blend drink for bananas as needed.

      Place the fruit into the blender with 5 or 6 ice cubes. Add a cup of vegan sorbet or gelatin in a flavor that complements the fruit choices.

      Add a pint of orange juice and a pint of apple juice. Place the lid on the blender, cover it with a dishtowel and hold it in place.

      Turn the blender on high. Process until the ingredients are smooth and frosty without any ice chunks. Add more juice to adjust the consistency as desired.

      Pour the smoothie into a covered contained and add 5 or 6 more ice cubes. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

      Pour the smoothie into a glass pitcher with additional ice cubes. Serve in tall glasses garnished with lemon or orange slices and a sprig of mint. Add straws.
