Parents are often faced with a time when a child questions the realness of Santa Clause. Of course, if the child is young and under the age of ten, you may want to conceal the true facts of Santa Clause. If the child is older and is approaching middle school, it may be time to reveal the truth.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remain calm and don’t be defensive when the child asks if Santa Clause is real. Many times when parents or educators start bashing the child with questions such as, “Who told you that? Of course Santa Clause is real,” the children know the real answer.

  2. Step 2

Sit and talk with the child and turn the question onto him. Ask him if he believes in Santa Clause. If the answer is yes, then tell him that his heart has told him the truth. Children are often skeptical because of older siblings or because a peer told him differently.

  3. Step 3

Talk with your child about Saint Nicholas. Research this saint and educate your child about what he did and why he was such a good man. This factual information may help your child understand Santa Clause and come to a conclusion if he is real or not.

  4. Step 4

Ask yourself if your child is too old to believe. If she is in middle school and still believes, then it may be time to tell her the truth. You don’t want your child to be ridiculed or be made fun of because of her belief.

  5. Step 5

Set up a meeting with your child and your spouse to explain and talk about this question about Santa Clause. Together, you can provide a good response that you find fitting for your child.
