How to Get a Learner's Permit in Massachusetts
Getting a Learner's Permit is an exciting event for both the parents and the children. It is a rite of passage that teenagers must complete before they are allowed to legally drive a car. However, each state has an individual process. Massachusetts is no exception. Their rules and regulations need to be read and followed if you want to obtain your Learner's Permit.

Study the Massachusetts Driver's Manual. Be sure to memorize signs and driving techniques so you can readily answer questions during testing.

Graduate from a state approved driving school. You must have 30 hours of lecture, 6 hours driving and 6 hours of observation along with 12 hours of parental supervised driving. The school systems should have a driver's education course set up during school hours, or you can take the course at a driving school.

Go to your local DMV and fill out an application. You will also need to show proper I.D., such as a school I.D. or pass port, and pay a fee of $30.

Take the 20 question test that day at the DMV. You need to answer 14 questions correctly in order to pass the test. You must also pass a vision exam before they will present you with a Learner's Permit.

Follow all of the restrictions placed on a Learner's Permit by keeping someone of 21 years or older, who has a valid Driver's License, in the car with you at all times. Also, don't drive between midnight and 5am. Keep your Learner's Permit with you any time you are in the car.
