Being a nerd has its advantages. You are smarter than most people and may truly understand the beauty of Star Trek. But being a nerd definitely has it's drawbacks. It is hard to find a girlfriend who understands your need for a pocket protector. Learn to get a girlfriend even though you find Calculus more fun than dating.

1. Ditch the nerd wear. Use clothes to make you look more attractive. High-water pants have their place when wading through a flood but they look silly. Study fashion magazines like GQ to get an idea of how "cool guys" dress. Outfit your wardrobe with similar choices. Dress your best to look the part. Girls will notice your transformation and forget you ever wore Captain Kirk T-shirts in public.
2. Lock up your action figures. Hans Solo and Luke Skywalker are cool but not everyone over the age of 12 understand that. Invest in a Blackberry or iPhone that all of the "cool guys" carry. They look cool and help you connect with people. Before you know it, your new girlfriend will be calling and texting you on it.
3. Stop hanging out at the library on weekends. The library is a great place to meet people but not on a Saturday night. Stop acting like a nerd and socialize. Put yourself in the vicinity of people. Go to coffee shops, social events and even dance clubs. Give yourself plenty of opportunities to meet your new girlfriend and talk to every girl you come across. Just leave your graphing calculator at home.
4. Talk about more than computer programming. Expand your conversational topics. Most people have a hard time relating to conversations about algorithms. Watch current events, go to movies and read up on celebrity gossip. Listen to popular music, travel and have an interesting hobby. Give yourself many opportunities to gain conversation material.
5. Have that "nerd swagger." Be confident. Nothing is more attractive than a person who believes in himself. Confidence makes even the nerdiest nerds look cool. Feel good about yourself and your new girlfriend will feel good about you too.
