Step 1
Research your chosen spot. Many times hikers choose their spots blindly without researching the surrounding areas. You have to first figure out if the hiking spot has terrain you can handle. You’ll also want to make sure the area is not very isolated in case an emergency arises.
-
Step 2
Arrange your accommodations following the hike. Look into nearby campgrounds to make sure you can camp there during your hiking trip. You’ll want a campground with running water facilities.
-
Step 3
Pack appropriately. Many hiking trips are ruined due to poor packing. You want to pack lightly, so that your backpack does not weigh you down during the hike. However, bring changes of clothes to deal with changing temperatures over the course of the day. Carry an ample supply of water, protein bars and extra socks. Keep a first aid kit handy as well.

Step 4
Stop the hike if you encounter a problem. You should know your limits in order to have a great hiking trip. If you push yourself or keep going despite an injury or bad weather, you can end up in serious danger.
