How to Know Which Fabrics are Good for Body

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and the fabrics you put on it can leave you feeling good or they can irritate your skin and make you itch. Materials that “breathe,” allow you to perspire without trapping moisture, make you more comfortable in both hot and cold weather.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Read the tag when buying apparel. The federal government requires a care tag attached to every piece of clothing, informing you of the fabrics that went into its construction and how to clean the item.
Step2
Look for silk or silk blends if your skin is easily irritated. Because a silk thread is narrow in diameter and has a smooth surface, fabric made with it is soft and gentle on the surface of your skin.
Step3
Buy cotton fabric when you want your clothing to allow you to perspire without trapping moisture next to your skin. Cotton feels good against your skin when brushed during the manufacturing process but be aware that pure cotton fabric may shrink when washed so use cold water or take the item to a dry cleaner.
Step4
Purchase bedding fabrics with a high thread count. Sheets come with a thread count number that indicates how many stitches per square inch make the fabric. The higher the number, the tighter the weave, resulting in a sheet that feels smooth against your skin.
Step5
Find lightweight summer clothing with sun-resistant fabric to protect your family from harmful ultraviolet rays. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends a minimum Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 30, with a rating of 50 or higher being excellent.
Step6
Wear light-colored fabrics if you will be in bright sunshine to reflect the sun’s rays and keep you cooler.
