How to Get a Man to Use Good Manners

Some people might agree that men don't have manners. Others might say that's just not true. Everyone learns manners through training and role models. Since some men might not be social, graceful creatures by nature, they may need some tips for good manners. If your man needs a class on good social graces, here are some light-hearted tips for getting him to use good manners and etiquette.

Instructions

    • 1

Use good manners yourself. Many times the best way to teach someone something is by modeling it yourself.

    • 2

Start slowly with one or two at a time. Your man might get overwhelmed if you give him a book on manners and expect him to complete it in 24 hours.

    • 3

Prioritize the manners he should learn. If the two of you visit restaurants or other social places, then restaurant and manners that deal with outside the home situations are high priority. If you host parties at your house, then those type manners would be a priority. Think about what manners mean the most to you and which can wait for a later training session.

    • 4

Keep practicing these manners with him. You've probably heard the phrase, "practice makes perfect." It's true that practicing manners helps your man remember the manners.

    • 5

Surround him with love and encouragement. Instead of making him feel guilty or ashamed, encourage him to use proper manners. If you treat him with respect then he'll treat you with respect by opening doors, holding your purse while you shop or helping you with your coat. It helps strengthen your relationship with him.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to avoid situations that might be embarrassing when teaching a man good etiquette and manners. Nothing's worse than man's hurt pride.
