The original daiquiri, invented in the late 1800s, is a lime-based rum drink. Named after a beach near Santiago, Cuba, there are many variations of the frozen daiquiri with the more-popular flavors being fruit-based. The drink is so popular that it even has its own holiday. You don't have to wait until National Daiquiri Day on July 17 to enjoy a delicious homemade frozen daiquiri.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 oz. light rum
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • 1 1/4 oz. simple syrup (sugar and water)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite fruit
  • Lime wedge or slice of fruit
  • Tall cocktail glass
  • Blender
  • Drinking straw
  1. Step 1

Place the cocktail glass in the freezer to keep it cool. Although this step isn't necessary, it can help keep the finished frozen daiquiri cold.

  2. Step 2

Make simple syrup by boiling two parts sugar to one part water. Boil for about 10 minutes. Make sure to cool the simple syrup before you use it.

  3. Step 3

Fill the blender with the ice. Add the rum, lime juice and simple syrup. Blend the ingredients on medium speed for about 15 seconds.

  4. Step 4

Add a handful of your favorite fruit for additional color or sweetness. Nice choices of fruit include strawberries, pineapple, bananas or peaches. Blend for an additional 15 seconds on medium speed. Make sure the mixture is creamy.

  5. Step 5

Remove the glass from the freezer, and pour frozen daiquiri contents into the glass. Serve with a straw and a lime wedge or a slice of fruit.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer the original flavor of the frozen daiquiri, you can omit the step to add fruit.
