The preppy look is coming back in style again. If you fondly remember polo shirts and cable cord sweaters, go ahead and embrace the new preppy look. The look has changed a bit over the years to be more modern; and today's preppy look includes a wide range of colors. Basically looking preppy involves looking neat and well balanced without looking over done.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Wear your makeup very light. Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone, so when it is applied it evens your skin tone but looks like you aren't wearing makeup at all. Apply a bit of gloss to your lips and mascara to your lashes. Stop there, or add a light pink eye shadow if you wish.
Step2
Keep your nails trimmed short. Skip the nail polish all together, or go with a French manicure.
Step3
Trim your hair on a regular basis so you never look like you are in a need of a cut. Straight hair is best for the preppy look.
Step4
Buy preppy looking clothes. Preppy clothes include polo and oxford shirts, dark denims and chino pants, cable knit or argyle sweaters and vests, Bermuda shorts, and tennis style dresses. Some good brands for preppy clothes include J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste and Ralph Lauren, among others.
Step5
Choose the right accessories. Avoid gaudy or showy jewelry, and flashy purses or bags with logos on them. Stick to simple tote bags, stud pearl earrings, hair ribbons and basic ribbon belts. White ankle socks are a great compliment to a preppy look.

Tips & Warnings

  • Develop the right attitude to complete your preppy look. An important part of being preppy is being happy and bubbly all of the time. Learn how to look on the bright side and always keep a smile on your face.
