India's art market is undergoing a boom of talent, galleries and, of course, money that few countries have enjoyed in recent decades. Paintings by local artists that sold for a few thousand dollars a short while ago are now selling for six digits, making the Indian art market one of the best to get into.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Get a thorough understanding of the current art scene by checking out top selling artists such as Tyeb Mehta, M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza and F.N. Souza. Once you've gotten some familiarity with the names, start to look at the major galleries and museums, paying careful attention to Gallery Espace and Nature Morte, which are both in Delhi. In Mumbai look at Bodhi Art, Project 88 and the Sakshi Gallery.
Step2
Find a source for the work of rising artists since the work of well established artists sells at sky-high prices. Scout talent at Indian art school's such as the Art School of Bangalore and the Indian Art Academy. Also consider attending events like the Indian art summit held annually in Delhi for a place to snag the work of emerging artists.
Step3
Locate a market for the art you buy or broker by looking outside of India, since the local gallery and auction market is considered by most to be saturated to overinflated. There are eager markets in Japan, where some collectors have thousands-strong Indian art collections, Europe, where auction houses such as Christies are cleaning up on the trade, and even North America.
Step4
Contact one of the well known Indian art galleries and offer them a deal in which you broker their work or function as an affiliate of their business. If you have connections with local museums use them as a means of selling or loaning contemporary work so you can get a toehold into the booming art market of the subcontinent.
