To train for a front walkover, you first need to do a handstand and transition to a bridge. In this skill, handstands are taught first. Then, you'll learn how to roll into a bridge and use your abdominal muscles to stand up again.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your hands above the head, palms facing outward. Put one foot forward with your toes pointed and push into a handstand. Keep your head still. Your body will follow your head, so turning or lifting it might cause you to fall out of the handstand.

  2. Step 2

Allow your feet to continue over and behind your body, keeping your head and shoulders still the entire time.

  3. Step 3

Land with your feet under your knees. If your feet are out further than the knees, you're unlikely to hold the bridge and more likely to have your feet slide out from under you.

  4. Step 4

Contract your stomach muscles to propel yourself upright and into a standing position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a log roll to learn proper body position and technique. A log roll will aid you as you learn to form a bridge from a standing position by reaching back with your hands to using your abdominal muscles to control the landing.
  • Learn to do a handstand by practicing close to a wall you can use to balance yourself. As you increases your strength and ability, you'll learn to hold the handstand for longer periods of time without the wall.
