How to Do a Handed Front Flip in Gymnastics
The handed front flip is an advanced gymnastics move that should only be attempted after you are proficient at cartwheels, round offs, handstands and front walkovers. The handspring requires a speedier momentum which increases the chance of injury if you don't have a good basis of flexibility and balance already established.

1
Practice a handstand hop first to master the sensation of your shoulders pushing you up while keeping your arms straight. Also practice hurdling cartwheels or round offs by running and throwing yourself into the movement with control.
-
2
Learn the front flip on a gymnastics floor or mat instead of on grass. The uneven terrain and the friction of the grass can cause injury.

3
Run for about 5 or 6 yards, hop slightly and bring your feet together up in the air and a little bit in front of you. Point your toes and raise your arms above your head. Land on the balls of your feet with your knees bent.
-
4
Push up with your legs out of the hop and bring your arms toward your knees with great force. Push off with your feet and hurl yourself forward. You should be able to grab your shins with hands as you are coming out of the flip if you're doing it correctly. Push with your shoulders and keep the back arched.

5
Land on the middle and balls of your feet to keep from falling forward. If you do fall forward go into a roll or tumble rather than trying to stop yourself with your hands so you don't risk spraining your wrist.
