How to Make a Bed for a Cat
According to research, cats sleep around 70 percent of their day, which equates to about 17 hours per day. While they may be catnapping rather than in deep sleep during most of the day, they still need to find a comfortable place to rest. A great way to help them out is to make a cat bed for your pet.

1
Purchase a cardboard box or basket to support the cat bed. The box or basket needs to be big enough for your cat. If you bought a box, cut off the lid, and make sure the cat can get in and out of the box easily.
-
2
Measure your box or basket, and purchase enough fabric to cover the bottom of the box or basket, and enough to line the sides. Select fabric that is safe for cats to lick or chew without having them ingest chemicals or dyes.

3
Turn the fabric inside out, and sew it to form the box or basket. You can use a sewing machine or sew by hand. Place the sewn material into the cat bed.
-
4
Buy pillow stuffing or fabric scraps to stuff the bed. You could also recycle shredded newspaper or other paper scraps. Insert the stuffing materials into a pillowcase to line the bottom of the cat bed.
-
5
Place the stuffed pillowcase into the cat bed. Show the finished product to your cat, and it should start enjoying a good night's (or day's) sleep in no time.

Tips & Warnings
If your cat enjoys sleeping stretched out, don't bother to make a cat bed. Don't confine your cat to a small space.
Using shredded newspaper as the pillowcase filler since it doesn't retain odors. You can also change the stuffing easily for little to no cost.
Don't use wool in making your cat bed since some cats swallow the fabric. Also don't add decorative strings or ribbon because cats might ingest those as well, choking on them.
