If you're in the market for a new apartment, it makes sense to find out the average property rental prices in your area. It will help you to know if you're making a good deal. The following will help you find the average property rental price for the area in which you're looking to rent.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read your local newspaper. Go to the classified section of your local paper. You can get a good indication of what the rental properties are going for. When you compare prices, be sure to compare apples to apples. In other words, compare two-bedroom apartments with other two-bedroom apartments rather than the price of a one-bedroom rental unit to a two-bedroom rental unit.

  2. Step 2

Talk to a realtor in your area. Realtors who specialize in your area know the real estate market for that area. They probably can give you an indication without doing specific research (although, before you take their word, ask them for documented proof).

  3. Step 3

Search online. Some websites list property rental prices for both apartments and houses all over the country. All you have to do is input your requirements and the websites give you the property rental prices. Other sites give reports about average rates for rental properties in specific areas.

  4. Step 4

Visit a few rental properties and ask about the rental costs. Nothing beats hands-on experience. By visiting the rental properties, you can get a better feel for what is available and what to expect in the marketplace.
