When hot weather arrives, it is very important to make sure your mice do not get too hot or get overheated. Mice require special care during hot weather. Make every effort to keep your mice safe and comfortable. Here are a few steps on how to keep mice cool in hot weather.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Keep the room cool. Use fans to help circulate the air in the room. The use of an air conditioner will also help keep the room cool. Mice will not get hot in rooms that are cool.
Step2
Place the mice cage out of direct sunlight. Move the cage down to the floor in the shade. Be careful not to place the cage in a high traffic area because it could scare the mice.
Step3
Freeze water in a plastic bottle. Once the water has frozen, remove the bottle from the freezer, wrap a towel around the bottle and place the wrapped bottle inside the cage. The mice will curl up against the towel to cool down.
Step4
Fill the water bottle a couple of times a day. Change the water frequently using cool water each time.
Step5
Dip the mice in a small amount of cool water so they can cool off. Be careful to not submerge their face in the water. You could also put a small dish of water in the cage and let the mice walk through it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not put a lot of water in the dish in the cage because mice cannot swim. Just put enough for them to get their feet wet.
  • Keep mice away from drafts. They can catch a chill and get sick.
