Microsoft Windows has become much more stable with each new release. Gone are the days when Windows crashed nealy every time you booted up your computer system. Still, errors do occur from time to time. One of the most common types of errors is the NT FileSystem error, but you can usually fix NT FileSystem Errors with little difficulty.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Insert your system CD into your PC. This CD is labeled with the name of your computer's manufacturer or with "Microsoft Windows."
Step2
Press a key when you see the message, "Press Any Key to Boot From CD."
Step3
Select "R" to repair your Windows installation when the "Welcome to Setup" menu appears. This allows you to access the recovery console.
Step4
Type "chdsk /f" when the console appears. This command runs the disk checking utility and fixes most NT FileSystem errors automatically.
Step5
Watch your computer screen as the disk checking utility runs. If there is a physical problem with your computer's hard drive, a notice should appear. This indicates the need to replace your computer's hard drive.
Step6
Restart your computer when it prompts you to do so. You will no longer receive NT FileSystem errors.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have your system CD, you can instead reach the console another way. When you turn on your computer, press "F8" to bring up the "Safe Mode" menu. Choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt." When the prompt shows up, follow Steps 4 through 6 above.
